These Days

These have been good, busy days. A weekend spent unpacking boxes and unwrapping furniture and creating a home out of a house. An afternoon spent talking with an incredibly generous and open screenwriter and director who freely bared some of the successes and tragedies of his professional career and gave me the best writing advice I've received to date. Trading FedExes and calls with my new employer, whose attention to clever design and packaging, I was pleased to discover, extends even to their new hire packet. A long hike in the Hollywood hills with a friend this morning, followed by lunch at a great little taco stand on Vermont. A conversation about horror flicks with a film producer interested in one of my screenplays, one which left me feeling like a true Hollywood hobnobber, discussing character motivations and underlying themes on a cell phone in the middle of a Barnes & Noble. An afternoon movie at a theater with a screen that filled the horizon and plush, optimally inclined seats, a film viewing experience marred only by the mediocre film itself and the abominable trailers that preceded it. The purchase of a damn fine pair of jeans.

Good, busy days, and a great deal of anticipation--for the new job, for the feedback on my latest screenplay, for news on the missus from her day at work--mixed with the wonderful, calming assurance that whatever will come will come, good or bad, and the knowledge that the best thing I can do right now is keep on doing what I'm doing, and enjoying what I've currently got. Which is lots.
