Update

What better time than a long holiday weekend deluged by rain to get caught up on the ol' website? I generally have two reasons for not posting here: there's either nothing going on, or too much going on. In this particular instance, it's the latter. But I got to spend a nice relaxing weekend with the missus, getting caught up on movies and reading, and I'm getting my wind back. Last week was spent in a bit of a haze, fighting off some weird flu-ish type illness whose primary symptom was that it left me completely exhausted for about five days, but that seems to be gone. The week before was a bit more pleasant, as it was marked by the arrival of the signed paperwork, and a check, for the option on my screenplay, the rewrite of which I'd just submitted after battering away at it over the lunch hours and after-work hours of the weeks prior. Which makes that bit of business official.

Long story short, a production company wants to make a movie out of something I wrote, and they've given me money to, for a certain time period, reserve the option to buy it. Which means that for the first time in my life, I'm getting paid for something I wrote (with the exception of that contest I won a few years back). Which is neat. It takes a bit for me to get my head around the fact that, if the option is exercised, which the production company certainly seems to want to do, I'll be giving up ownership of something I created. I know that's the whole point of writing something to sell, but it's kind of weird when viewed on the level of, Oh, I don't own that idea and those words any more, rather than the level of, Yeah, maybe someone would want to buy that someday. But I can deal with that. I just can't get over the kick that I could see somebody I created end up on the screen.

So, illness aside, it's been a good couple weeks.
